Pipe Dream #31: To Fake Macro Shots Until I Get A Real Lens

I spent 8 hours weeding gardens the other day. It might have been really bad, except that the day was fairly cool and no one was around, really, so I just got to enjoy being outside by myself lookin’ like a fool. Gardening is like running. I know in my head that there is massive benefit to doing it consistently, but I’m not particularly good at it and I hate how sweaty it makes me. In both cases, I keep waiting until the day I wake up and find myself competent…

It made me think of a recent trip to the Lyndale Farmer’s Market. I did what I normally do there: Wait around to carry boxes to the car and take pictures of flowers while the vendors shoot daggers at me with their eyes.

By the way, I can’t get over flowers. They fall just behind baked goods as far as the amount of pictures I take of them. This blog should be called Planting Dreams, except that name is not as right.

I think I take pictures of objects more than people. They stay still and wait until I get the lighting right, and they don’t complain when I put a PERFECTLY FINE shot of them on the Internet. I don’t have as many emotional neuroses about photo shoots of dead things. Ha. All the benefits of inanimate objects.

Point of this post: I figured out that if I take a shot perfectly in focus, I can crop it in to look like I took it with a macro lens, like with this dahlia. Until I get a beloved macro lens, it will have to do.
